Let’s chat about how size matters – oh no, not that!

Does size matter?  Well yes, in the whole scheme of everything.

I am talking about how small we are in other’s lives, space-time continuum, world, universe, the whole scheme of everything.

In my post ’12 BILLION years for me to write’ I wrote about the cosmic calendar which included the following –

11:59:46. All of recorded history occupies only the last 14 seconds. Every person you’ve ever heard of lived somewhere in there. All those kings and battles, migrations and inventions, wars and loves, everything in the history books happened here, in the last seconds of the cosmic calendar.

In my post ‘My Life My Way’ I wrote about the average death of a man in the US which included the following –

In 2013 the life expectancy in United States increased to 78.84 years. That year, the life expectancy for women was 81.30 years and for men 76.50 years.

So the world is about 12 billion years old and my average life span is 76 years – my size time is very small in other’s lives and in the space-time continuum.

There is excellent information out there on the internet about the size of earth compared to other planets and our universe.  I will not bore you with all the details, but with pictures instead –

I am 5’9” living in a 3,800 sq. ft. home on an 8,000 sq. ft. lot in a city of 1.5 million people, in a metropolitan area of 6.7 million people, in a state of 26.96 million people – well you get the idea.

My size is small in the world, universe; the whole scheme of everything.

Size does matter – in the whole scheme of everything – we are small – in the whole scheme of everything – let’s make the most of it.

Be kind to others – be kind to yourself – help out when you can – don’t sweat the small stuff – most of all enjoy life and make an impact – a big one!

  1. Oh gosh!! Another Carl Sagan fan 😀
I am so disconcerted actually. Just a few months ago, teenyboppers would raise quizzical eyebrows at me when I mentioned the name and raved about the old series I had recorded and my rather unflattering comparisons of the new one by deGrasse Tyson with the former etc… and they thought I was just having a “senior moment” haha.. and suddenly, online, I find so many people who love Sagan or the subjects he spoke about 🙂
    Thank you for this..

  2. Oh dear!!! … I am afraid I might just have offended you 😦 ….. I did not click on the link to your older post until just now.. oh dear… ok, a clarification… I meant only in comparison to the original series, not that I am dissing Tyson in any way 😀

  3. Seeing where we fit into the vast cosmos and its timeline does evoke humility. I ponder then why so many feel that they ‘rule’ over Mother Earth when she existed before and will continue on after our short time span on her soil.
I agree, be kind, be generous, for even a small token of love and compassion can make a large difference in someone’s life.

    • Thank you, that was my point to this post. A big impact is not necessary a cure for cancer, but can be just being there for someone who needs help. Our time is short, we should make the best of it in a good way while we are here. Thanks for reading and your comment. 🙂

  4. Size matters? I liked the POINT of the blog, that we should remember just how small we are in comparison to the billions of other planets and heavenly bodies there are in the cosmos. How small we are compared to even our own state or town or province or burrough or whatever.. how small we are in comparison to God. Keep it humble is one of my life mottos, but I agree. Impact where you can and you might make a BIG difference to someone else.

  5. I love it….I am 5’4 live in a house with 2200sq ft on an acre of land on a lane of 8 homes, in a town of 180 thousand in a county of 500 thousands and in a state with 39 million people….it really does put it in perspective….we are just a grain of sand in the universe….it really can either break you or make you when you start breaking it all down to numbers….but I love it….
