This became the Jackson 5’s second #1 hit by knocking out the Beatles’ “Let It Be.”

Interesting facts about ABC & The Jackson 5 –

According to co-writer Freddie Perren, the music of this is the chorus of their previous hit, “I Want You Back.”

After the Jacksons were signed to Motown, they moved to Hollywood for a year of rehearsals. Some lived with Berry Gordy, some with Diana Ross.

This appears in the Eddie Murphy film Daddy Daycare.

During the song’s break where all instruments drop out except drums, the ascending yell that is heard is sampled from the legendary New Orleans Funk band The Meters song “Cissy Strut.”

This song was used in a large dance sequence in the Kevin Smith film Clerks II.
