Being Different – aren’t we all?

I have written in several posts that I am different.  When I used this word ‘different’, in my mind I was referring to ‘unusual’, ‘odd’, ‘not normal’, ‘sick’, ‘crazy’ and any other negative word to describe me as something less than others.  But then I started thinking about the word ‘different’ and realized we are all different.  None of us are the same, we may have similarities, but we are different.  Being different is a good thing, right?

Yes, being different is a good thing!

If we all were the same, we would be doing the same thing; think about it.  If we all were the same, we would have the same looks, the same behaviors, the same jobs, the same everything.  If we all were the same, we all would not be able to tell each other apart.  Being different is a good thing, right?

Yes, being different is a good thing!

I want to be different, I want to be an individual, I want to be me.  Being different and having diversity brings interest to this world and our lives.  This difference brings flavor to what would be a boring vanilla world.  This world we live in is full of color, full of flavor, full of sizes and shapes, full of people with different looks, different thoughts, different believes, different opinions and different differences.  Being different is a good thing, right?

Yes, being different is a good thing!

So let us be different and let us embrace our differences and our diversities that at times can separate us.  The looks, thoughts, believes, opinions and differences of us should not create a world of turmoil.  Instead, these differences can create a world of acceptance, understanding and love.  Being different is a good thing, right?

Yes, being different is a good thing!

I am glad I am different – different from you; and I am glad you are different – different from me.  So in my future posts, when I use the word ‘different’ to describe myself; I will no longer be referring to ‘unusual’, ‘odd’, ‘not normal’, ‘sick’, ‘crazy’ or any other negative word to describe me as something less than others.  Instead I will just use the specific word I really want to use.  I like being me, being me is a good thing, right?

Yes, being me is a good thing!

  1. Beautiful pictures – all ‘different’. 😀 … Maybe I need to dig in your archives a bit more, but I’m curious – how are you ‘different’? If you care to share and I’ve not just missed a post that explained why you feel that way? Thanks for posting this all the same. From somebody who is ‘different’ down to her bones and just finding out it’s not necessarily ‘broken’ that defines it.. 🙂

    • You have not missed a specific post about how I am different. In future posts, this post may make more sense. You see, I have a way of building upon topics I want to write about. This is one of several posts to come to reveal why I am different and why it is okay that I am different. Hopefully that makes some sense, I want you my friends, to continue reading – I have more to reveal. As always, thanks for reading and commenting! 🙂

  2. Spear, well done. People of Faith are taught from a very young age everyone has unique talents, skills and strengths. We are to use them and exercise our uniqueness for our own happiness as well as our higher power…under the premise it is our being different and acceptance of that which is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves…and to the world. Your post says it all. We should appreciate our uniqueness and look to make a successful life for ourselves…and others…as a result.

  3. Beautiful, beautiful post Spear! I tell my kids this all the time, being different is good. Being different is being yourself and you should never try to be anything you’re not. Thanks again for a wonderful read.
