Somewhere Out There

Who remembers the movie ‘An American Tail’?

This is an animated movie that was release 30 years ago back in 1986.  Here is the storyline per imdb.com –

Fievel is a young Russian mouse separated from his parents on the way to America, a land they think is without cats. When he arrives alone in the New World, he keeps up hope, searching for his family, making new friends, and running and dodging the cats he thought he’d be rid off.

The popular song that came from this movie is titled ‘Somewhere Out There’.  Per wikia.com

Somewhere Out There is a song that Fievel and Tanya both sing one night while Fievel is lost in New York City, neither knowing that the other is also singing the song. Fievel sings because he knows his family is out there and he wants to find them, and Tanya sings because she refuses to believe that Fievel is dead.

So these mice are in 2 different locations and singing the same song.  They know the other is somewhere out there.

I think of this song every time I am on WP and responding to a comment on my blog or leaving a comment on your blog and instantly, or rather quickly I get a response back.  Sometimes you and I are online at the same time, viewing each other’s blogs or seeing each other’s comments and responding back.  We are under the same big sky singing the same song in different locations.  How cool is that!

Some lyrics from the song ‘Somewhere Out There’ –

Somewhere out there, beneath the pale moon light

It helps to think we might be wishing, on the same bright star

It helps to think we’re sleeping, underneath the same big sky

I think of the lyrics every time I am on WP and responding to a comment on my blog or leaving a comment on your blog and instantly, or rather quickly I get a response back.

It is nice to know, we here on WP are underneath the same big sky.

It is nice to know; we might be wishing on the same bright star.

It is nice to know we are beneath the pale moon light.

It is nice to know you are somewhere out there.

  1. That has always been one of my favourite movies…and not just of the animated kind. I love your analogy of their situation and WordPress. You brightened my morning! It is nice to know you are “Somewhere Out There” too! 🙂

  2. I always enjoy your posts, as you know. But this really touched me. First I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since that movie was released. I had the video when the girls were growing up (the eldest was born in ’87) and can probably still recite it word for word as a result. I can hear the tiny tinny voice singing along to this song and it brings back such memories but your sentiment shines through to me. I’m glad you are somewhere out there. I’m glad to be part of this blogging family, this amazing community and it does help to know that we are all sleeping under the same big sky. Warmest wishes that all your dreams come true, dear Terry (and The Bean wishes the same to Miss Roxy) 🙂

  3. I always enjoy your posts, as you know but this really touched me. Of course I can’t believe that it’s 30 years since that movie was released. I had the video and it played constantly when the girls where small (the eldest was born in ’87) to the extent that I can probably still recite it all word perfect …. such memories. But more than that your sentiment really caresses my heart – I am so grateful to be connected to you and so grateful for this ever-growing blogging family we have and I take comfort from the fact that we all sleep under the same big sky. I send the warmest thoughts for everything you wish for on that star to come to you, dear Terry (and The Bean sends the same to Miss Roxy)

  4. Hey Terry! You know what, at first I thought WTF!! Who are you and what have you done with Terry but then I sat down and thought about it for a while and it is quite a remarkable thing to think that I am over in here a little Town in the UK and you are over there in a huge state in the U.S.A and yet we converse, read the same things at the same time and generally go about our business next to each other yet several thousands of miles apart….
    Amazeballs!!
