It is the last day – the day before we leave for good – never to return here again.
In my post ‘Home For Sale‘, I wrote the following –
I will admit, as much as I am excited about moving forward, I am somewhat sad about leaving this current home. 13 ½ years, this house we have called home. I still remember seeing this home and walking through the front door for the first time. It only took a few minutes and I told Gary “This is it, this is the one!” We had previously spent months viewing properties and this one immediately stood out and I knew it would be our home.
In today’s post, I write the following –
Tomorrow is the day the new owners take possession of this house, our home for the past 13 ½ years. The house is empty except those items that we are leaving behind for the new owners.
I can remember back to that year we bought our home; Halloween, October 31st, the papers were signed. Prior planning included some painting to take place before we moved into our new home. Gary and I were living in an apartment complex where we met someone that we hired to paint a couple of the rooms in our new home. The painting was to start that Halloween day. Gary and I were very excited about the new home, the new chapter we were starting and making the house a home; making it our home.
We checked in on the painter that evening and to our surprise not much had been accomplished, and what was completed so far; was a mess – it was a very bad job. And then there were the beer cans everywhere and the total lack of attention to being careful with someone else’s belongings. The painter was fired on the spot and there Gary and I sat with a partially painted room in an empty house that was to become our home. I sat there and remembered back to a time when I was younger and helped my dad with renovating his rental properties. I performed all sorts of jobs including painting! I told Gary, I can do the painting, and that I did.
That first night Gary and I stayed up all night painting a couple of rooms. They turned out beautiful and Gary was thrilled and amazed at the quality paint job I did. Little did I know at that time, I would eventually paint the whole house with some rooms being painted twice!
So 13 ½ years later, the last day is here – the day before we leave for good – never to return here again.
The new owners are painting, this I know – they will make it their home, with their colors.
While we were here we made it our home with our colors.
I can only imagine the emotions and feelings as this chapter closes. And a great song to pick to go along with this post! 🙂

Yes, lots of emotions taking place today – but they are good emotions, no sadness as it is time to move on. Thanks for stopping in today to read and comment – always appreciated! 🙂

Can’t even start to imagine all the conflicting emotions you’re both going through today and tonight ! Hope you will be able to celebrate in some way today and say a good farewell to the house you cared so well for all through these years 🙂
A lovely family is ready to come and give it their colours and continue your job of loving it 🙂 I’ll bet this is a very happy house .
And you will be on your way to FLORIDA soon soon 🙂

It is very interesting today as we do some last minute cleaning and other activities. The new owners will be stopping by later to do a last walk through of the house before they take possession of it tomorrow. The house is empty now, and I have good emotions about it. Thanks Turtle, hugs to you as well. 🙂

It is a natural response to feel as you do and I completely understand. The new owners will take care of the home while you move forward with your lives. Florida awaits you my friend! Hugs, xx

Lovely post, Terry! And it must be really weird to leave your home for good now… but soon you will be on your way to a new kind of living, enjoying everything nature has to show with beautiful landscapes and – hopefully! – lovely people to meet! I actually also like painting walls, it´s somehow very hypnotizing and calming… and I also like the feeling to have done a good job with my own hands! Wish you save travelling to Florida!!!
P.S. I´m a HUUUUGE Cyndie Lauper fan 😉 SOmehow always liked her so much more than Madonna…

Thank you Sarah! I did lots of painting in this home, most likely never to do it again – and that is fine with me. Glad you enjoyed Cyndie Lauper, I felt the song was appropriate! Happy Day! 🙂

Sweet memories you will always have of your house and home for 13 1/2 years, but always remember the best thing about any home is not the brick and mortar, but the people you share it with. And it can be ANYwhere! Enjoy your next adventure and make lots of homes with people you love! (including when you come to Mars!! <3)

Yes, I agree it certainly is with the people we share it with. Many memories here in this home – but we are ready to make more memories elsewhere! Thanks Jodi, appreciate you stopping by today! 🙂

A beautiful goodbye to your home. It must be very emotional leaving it despite that fact that you guys are heading out on a great new adventure that you’ve dreamed of doing for quite some time.
And what an incredibly lovely song on so many levels. Thanks for sharing your farewell. 🙂

Amanda, I think it will be more emotional tomorrow, when we leave for the last time. The house is empty for several days now and it is time to move on. This house served its purpose well, and will do so for the next family. Happy Monday! 🙂

I see your true colours shining through. I see your true colours and that’s why I love you. It’s why you loved the house and it’s why the new family will love it but you, my friend – you are something more special than bricks and mortar can ever be. And if you can love in this virtual space then I, amongst many many others, love you 🙂

We are having a great time hosting a young friend while his army dad is away ‘on manoeuvres’, he’s eating us out of house and home but is great fun and he is going to paint our gate! ☺️👍🏻

I love this memory – funny what you think of when you leave a place.
And I can’t believe it is already August 2 – it seems like just yesterday you were still waiting for someone to love your house!

It is always a little bittersweet at the start of a new adventure but you have been planning to move for quite some time. We also signed the title deeds for our house on Halloween 2014 but it was brand new so no painting fiasco! I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world. Home is where the heart is. 🙂

I am noss-noss. In Arabic it means 50/50! I am thinking of a little trip in a few days and it is either Pensacola or Salt Lake City. What do you think? You must be excited to start your new adventure, despite the surger? 🙂
