WP, I have to vent!

Can I be honest?

I always have been and will be honest here on my blog.  This blog is about me and my life and I try to keep my personal opinions about other ‘things’ from being revealed here.

But lately more accurately the past couple of months, WordPress has not been behaving favorable toward me.  WP, I have to vent.

Can I be honest?

I do view my Stats every single day because I post every single day.  I log into my WP account and there in plain view are my Stats.  Interesting thing about Stats; they can have an impact on people at times.  I will not lie, they do have an impact on me some days, and other days they do not.  So then why am I writing a post about WP so I can vent?

I post every single day because it is a personal goal of mine.  I have other things I can do, but at this time in my life I am limited to certain activities for health reasons.  My planned travel adventures are on hold for a while and though I am parked in one spot for the unforeseen future, I limit myself to visiting places of interest.  I did this several weeks ago and ended up with a high temperature and in the hospital for 3 days.

I could take up crocheting, painting or another hobby that would entertain me and allow the creative side of me to be expressed.  But instead I write blog posts, which in turn brings much more back to me than I put into it.

Can I be honest?

WP, I am upset with you and I have to vent.  I post every day and for the past couple of months you decide that not all my posts will be displayed in your Reader.  Why is this?  I have researched the Support site and know about tags and categories and I have attempted to make changes per Support to fix this issue, but to no avail.  I know instantly when my posts are NOT displayed in the Reader because of those Stats.  Yes, I know, I know it is not all about Stats, but they do have an impact on me.  Why?

I do not use the Reader; I elected to receive an email when fellow bloggers publish a post, this is what works best for me.  But I realize that does not work best for others and they rely on the Reader for new posts.  Because WP is not always displaying my posts in the Reader, those Stats are looking unfavorably for me.

I put great effort into writing posts; my heart, my soul, my emotions, my cancer and my life.  Blogging is MY hobby at this time in MY life and is important to ME.  I understand other bloggers and readers have busy lives and it is not always about me.  But WP, you need to give them the opportunity to decide if they want to read my posts or not.  You have on many occasions taken this opportunity away from them.

Can I be honest?

WP, I have to vent!

There are times I ask myself “Why waste my time writing and blogging?”  “WordPress does not care what I am posting, why should they care?”  “WordPress is free, and I should not be upset that many of my posts are not displaying in the Reader.”  “I am upset and at times just want to quit and delete this account.”

If this post is displayed in the Reader today and you read this, I have a question for you.  Have you encountered this issue before?  I am opened to your ideas and suggestions.

  1. Well since WordPress is puking all over your blog today apparently (I can’t post a comment OVER THERE dang it!!! ) Here’s what I said in response to your post today:

Actually Terry, NO. This did not appear in my Reader (which I’ve opted to use), but I ALSO use email for alerts to posts from WP because many times they don’t keep up with the individual blogger and I may not see anything in the Reader for a few days if at all. Also, the email versions are delayed, sometimes by a day or two, but they appear in the Reader. My take on this? WP has issues with their site, and it does not work perfectly because it’s human, rather than computer/website error. The same thing happens to us all. And I feel your distress about it!

I sincerely SINCERELY hope you know how important your blog is to some of us who read your efforts. They ARE appreciated and I, for one, would be distressed if you were to quit. I’d lose contact with someone I’ve come to consider a friend. Do the blogging for YOUR own health and mental welfare and because it pleases you to write and gives you an outlet. If you are looking for numbers, I’m afraid that you’ll be sorely disappointed, because that stuff rarely lives up to our expectations, doesn’t it?

Take care my friend! Don’t quit. Hell, some of the blogs I follow I can’t even read IN READER because there’s some HTML disconnect between my computer OS (Windows 7 and no I don’t want to change if Microsoft is out there lurking trying to sell me on 10) and the way they have put the blog on line (something about smart phones versus lap tops versus tower or desktop computers). It’s enough to make me wanna quit sometimes. But I won’t. Because who knows what I’d miss? Besides missing folks like you! ❤

    • Yes, I understand about those stats and at times they do disappoint me. I enjoy my time here, not just because I have an outlet but as you indicate I have people here I consider friends. I think WP is angry with me today because it is not allowing me to leave comments on other blogger’s sites today. Thanks for you comment but most of all your friendship. 🙂

  2. I know what you mean. WP hasn’t been nice to me either. When people comment on my posts, the notification doesn’t appear. Instead, I have to go into my dashboard and check my comments there. Sometimes, my posts still isn’t appearing in the reader and I ended up to have to post again. May I make a suggestion? Trying publishing your posts 15 minutes later. I have been doing that with my posts ever since my posts failed to appear in the reader.

    • Well I feel somewhat better these issues are not just related to me – although I wish them to not happen to anyone. I noticed when I publish my posts and I see it is not appearing in the Reader, I go back and edit it with changes to the tags, then usually it will appear. Thanks for your suggestion, I appreciate it very much. 🙂

  3. I seriously hate the WP reader too. At times it fails to refresh my Reader app and I cannot see new posts from the blogs that I follow. But I hope you continue blogging and don’t let this affect you. Many people also check new posts through their email (which I have started doing too) so I think all hope is not lost.

    • Thank you for letting me know. After this post was published, I waited about 30 minutes and edited that tags and re-posted. I have found this sometimes will display the post in the Reader. Happy day my friend. 🙂

  4. Go ahead and Vent away Terry.. There have been lots of issues surrounding WP recently my friend.. As you know I was spammed.. as a lot of others were too I rescued lots. And recently my notifications have not been responding either.. I saw a like from a comment you made back to me and I thought it unusual as you always reply to comments.. I hopped over here in person to see you had commented..
This has been happening more and more to comments too in notifications people not getting responses posted as verified by friends on WP..
So your Venting is not alone in the gremlins at work..

I use both reader and email it depends.. So I know the frustration you must feel..

Know I saw this in my email 🙂 as I work my way down the list .. 🙂
    Have a restful Sunday Terry..
    Hugs Sue

  5. How frustrating! I’m sorry you’ve been experiencing that. I hadn’t noticed that issue myself, but I have had issues with my comments being misdirected into the spam folder. 😦

I hope you get some resolution soon!

  6. Wow, this makes a lot of sense to me about what happens with my posts sometimes. I had no idea. This post did appear in my reader, but I dont see them everyday, so I must be missing some. 😐 Im glad you vented. Keep writing daily because we love reading your posts. Maybe WP will fix the issue.

    • Thank you Victro for letting my know, this gives me hope that I am there somewhere. I and others are frustrated at this, and can hope that WP gets their act together – we will see. Thanks for reading and commenting and I hope you have a great day. 🙂

  7. I have noticed a “lack” of posts by you too, Terry. I was a little concerned but was hoping that you and Gary were off on some adventure.
I know several of my followers can no longer post comments on my blog. Why…I don’t know. There seems to be several glitches on WordPress these days.
Perhaps it’s designed that way, in an effort to make money from the “freebie bloggers” when they are so frustrated and desperate enough…they will pay for help.
BTW…thanks for Embeecee…she found me through you. 🙂
I “read” your blogs through “reader.” Maybe there’s a problem with that. Several other bloggers I follow…..have completely”disappeared.”
Just keep writing. Hopefully, WordPress will get its act together. 😦

  8. YOu have every right to vent and I have had others contact me and ask why I didn’t respond to a particular post and it will be because it didn’t pop up in my Reader. This one did, by the way. But it is not up to WordPress to dictate Big Brother Stylee what I do and do not want to read. This is why I use the reader actually – so that I can be in touch with the blogs I want to follow. And I expect that those that choose to follow me can do the same if they so wish. This issue appears to be becoming more prevalent (three others have contacted me this week) so I think it is time for WordPress to change their wheel so that people have the autonomy that they pay for (I’m. Premium customer and pay for my blog as do most of us) in choosing the content they want to see. So you rant away friend and if there is something we can do collectively then let me know and I’ll be right there. Calming thoughts to you though – I don’t want you to tire yourself by getting angry so take a cup of positive tea from your lady in New England

  9. Always good to vent my friend ! I must say, I never use Reader, and never check my stats, but that is just me….Seems like you are not alone with the WP problems. I tend to have glitches now and then, I then have my own personal internal vent, and then just hope it all rectifies itself again. Here’s hoping the WP problems get sorted. In the meanwhile, try not stress (haha easier said than done) relax, and enjoy your day. 🙂 x

    • Thank you Lynne, I do at times put too much into the Stats, but I have something to say in my posts and it is important to let those who wish to read them have that opportunity. Okay, I am done venting, I am now breathing and soon will be relaxing and enjoying the day. Happy Sunday my dear friend. 🙂

  10. As you know already and I mentioned it before I had missed several posts (not showing up in my reader) but I always manage to find time to plug along and pull up your site to read and comment when appropriate too. I am not personally absorbed in stats and most time over-look blogiversaries of mine (since I have 9 web sites through WP). I follow so many blogs as many others do as well. Try not to get to frustrated with the WP monkeys, nothing is perfect! Blog along Terry. Sunshine Hugs!!!

    • Thanks Cheryl, I appreciate you for following me and taking the time to read my posts. I know WP is not perfect and I should not allow them to frustrate me, what can I say – I take it personally. I will get over it and will continue to blog along. Thanks as always for the sunshine hugs. 🙂

Yes today I am reading your post in the reader, but usually I see it through email on my phone, and at times it is not your post, you make a like to me and I go into your blog from there to find your post, because I have no intention of missing any of your posts, what would I do without them and my boogies, please don’t quit, we need you ot here !

  12. Hi Terry, I too received notice of your post via email but it’s not showing in my reader. BUT I receive email notifications under a different email address than the one that I use for wp.com and the reader. I have had too much experience with my sites not showing up in the reader but they have all been self-hosted sites. I noticed from above that you use a program called WPMU DEV that I’m not familiar with. Could that have something to do with it? Anyway, as Embeecee says, venting is allowed but don’t give up or stop blogging, we want to keep reading your great posts! 🙂

  13. This post appeared in my reader. My on posts used to appear in my own reader but they’ve stopped doing that and I don’t know why. I assumed all of my posts appear in my followers reader, but I’m not so sure now? I nominated you for an award with no obligation to take it. I just enjoy your blog 🙂

  14. Well, funny, I posted a comment to you on this post about 30 minutes ago, and it just is not showing. Could it be a WP issue?
Anyway, who knows, maybe it will pop up later….basically I said, vent away. I do not look at my reader or my stats ever, that is just me…I have received some issues here and there, but I tend to do my own personal internal vent (not always pretty) but it is what it is…I try not stress and hope that the issue sorts itself out. Now, my friend, as annoying as it is and as frustrating as it is, try not stress, vent by all means, and lets hope this situation gets sorted. Enjoy the rest of your day. 🙂 x

  15. WP at its best is still in need of help….for a long time (last year) I couldn’t see my followers, I could see the comments and get to everyone who commented but no followers, no matter where I went….it was very frustrating….as for as stats….well to tell you the truth, I just went over and looked for the first time just now….interesting….I have heard others talk about their stats, but personally I never give it any thought….I hope you get the issue taken care of by WP…let me know and I will go kick some WP ass for you…LOL As far as the reader it makes me dizzy…LOL I like going into each persons personal blog…..have a calm Sunday my friend…..kat

  16. This showed up in my Reader. I had some trouble a while back with my posts not showing up in the Reader and it turned out I was using too many tags and categories (there’s a combined max of 12 or 15, I think, and after that the post won’t be displayed in the Reader…?). Not sure if that’s an issue for you, but maybe worth looking into. I know I don’t comment much but I do appreciate your posts and I hope you’re doing as well as possible. Take care.

  17. I am reading this in my reader. This happened to me before. I posted twice when it did. There are a lot of WP gremlins and they are very frustrating to experience. All my responses to reader comments disappeared. WP did fix it. Blogs I follow get unfollowed. People’s comments go to spam. Sigh…….I feel your pain.

    Liked by 2 people

    • Thanks Cindy for feeling my pain. As of today, my comments left on other’s posts are not being displayed, I am suspecting maybe they are going to Spam? I have also had blogs I follow become unfollowed – very frustrating. I am glad this post showed in the reader today, that is encouraging. Have a happy day. 🙂

    • I schedule my posts for 9 am central time everyday and usually immediately see some response to them. When I do not that tells me that it is not displayed in the Reader. That last couple of times when this occurred I have gone back and edited the post by changing the tags, then after republishing the post it sometimes displays in the Reader. This is what I did this morning and it tells me if you saw it at 11:00 am, then me reposting it worked. Strange and frustrating, oh well, life goes on. Thanks Van, I appreciate you stopping by today – Happy Sunday! 🙂

By the way I think WP is upset with me for posting this today, I have left comments on other’s posts today including yours and my comments are not being displayed. Oh well, just another exciting day on WP. Thanks Sarah for stopping by each day, I appreciate you. 🙂

WP is really being a pain towards you at the moment ~ hopefully it gets sorted out very soon.

  20. This must be why I do not always receive your blog posts in my reader! Lately I have been clicking on your Gravatar in my notifications to read your blog posts! I have experienced all kinds of weird things with the WP app. Sometimes comments go to my Spam Folder. Hopefully they can correct this soon. I have a feeling there are other people I am following whose posts don’t show up in my reader either. It is frustrating. Hang in there Terry, we will find you one way or another!!!

  21. Hi Terry. This post appeared in my reader, but I know that others of yours have not. I’m not sure if this happens with my posts because I’m going through a phase of not checking stats. But now I am concerned because while I’m ok with people not seeing everything I’m posting, I hate the idea that my comments aren’t visible. To me, the community of bloggers is the most important thing and I rely on commenting and receiving comments to stay in touch. One thing I’ve found a lot with WP is finding myself not following blogs that I KNOW I have followed. It’s like after a while WP just decides to unhook me from that blog. Frustrating all round.

  25. I have different issues with WordPress that have started in the last little while. I think a combination of things affect what we see—Wordpress itself, as well as the computer and browser we use. It’s annoying but I suppose it’s remarkable that it works as well as it does.

I think all your posts appear in my reader. I then visit your page and usually try to add a comment. So if I miss out on commenting, either the post didn’t appear in my reader or I am travelling and without a connection. The latter is the most likely.

I just noticed that I don’t get always a notification of someone texted me here on so which is really annoying because it can lead to do many misunderstandings 😢
