Turning 21

Today is the 21st month of my blog!  My anniversary post is something different than the usual posts I write.

Hum, 21 months……

wikpedia.org has the following –

Age 21 –

In several countries 21 is the age of majority.

In all US states, 21 is the drinking age.

In Hawaii and New York, 21 is the minimum age that one person may purchase cigarettes and other tobacco products.

In some countries it is the voting age.

In the United States, 21 is the age at which one can purchase multiple tickets to an R-rated film. It is also the age to accompany one under the age of 17 as their parent or adult guardian for an R-rated movie.

In some states, 21 is the minimum age, persons may gamble or enter casinos.

In 2011, Adele named her second studio album 21, because of her age at the time.

Hum, 21 years……

When I was the age 21: I was in my 3nd year of marriage.

When I was the age 21: I had been drinking for several years, 18 was the drinking age back then, it was changed to 21 after I had already turned 21 – lucky me.

When I was the age 21: I had been smoking for several years, I started at 16 and finally quit for the final time last year.

When I was the age 21: I most likely voted for the first time – I always wondered why I had to wait until 21 to vote, when I was required to register for the draft at age 18.

When I was the age 21: I have no idea what my first R-rated film I saw – the best top grossing R-rated film that year was ‘Stripes’ starring Bill Murray.

When I was the age 21: I do not believe I had gambled or been in a casino – I certainly have had my share of visits to a casino in the past several years.

When I was the age 21: I had no best selling album – but that year REO Speedwagon did, it was titled ‘Hi Infidelity’.

19: with first words

Today is the 19th month of my blog!  My anniversary post is something different than the usual posts I write.

I am on a cruise ship today somewhere in the Eastern Caribbean.

I decided to take my age 56 and subtract 19 (the anniversary month of my blog) and that equals 37.  I then took my age 56 and added 19 (the anniversary month of my blog) and that equals 75.

I then took 37 and added 75 and that equals 112.  I then took 112 and subtracted 19 (the anniversary month of my blog) and that equals 93.

I then went back to my 93rd post and picked the following corresponding numbered words –

19 (the anniversary month of my blog) – time

37 (my age subtracting the anniversary month of my blog) – in

56 (my age) – I

75 (my age adding the anniversary month of my blog) – a

93 (37 adding 75 subtracting 19) – specific

112 (37 adding 75) – before

Create a poem using the above words as the first word of each line –

Time has come.

In the weeks, ahead.

I will reveal.

A future once unforeseen.

Specific with previous uncertainties.

Before, but now with clarity.

‘Puff’

What about Puff?

Google Puff and you receive these results –

noun

1.a short, explosive burst of breath or wind.

“a puff of wind swung the weathervane around”

synonyms: gust, blast, flurry, rush, draft, waft, breeze, breath

2.a light pastry case, typically one made of puff pastry, containing a sweet or savory filling.

“a cream puff”

verb

1.breathe in repeated short gasps.

“exercises that make you puff”

synonyms: breathe heavily, pant, blow

2.cause to swell or become swollen.

“he suddenly sucked his stomach in and puffed his chest out”

When I decided to write a post about ‘Puff’, I was not thinking about the Google results.  What was I thinking about?   Was I thinking about me as a previous smoker and puffing on a cigarette?  The other day, I was thinking that soon I will mark a year that I quit smoking and will most likely write a post about it – be expecting that post in a couple of weeks.  Then again, was I thinking about something else?  At that time, my view was the window and what was beyond it; my view was leaves of yellow, orange and brown and possibly of ‘Puff’.  Those leaves of color reminded me it is still autumn; and then a favorite song popped in my head by a trio of singers –

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea

And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,

From Spinditty.com

Puff the Magic Dragon

Is a song that I remember well from my childhood. As a little girl I would play this song on a record player and when the song ended I would pick up the needle and move it back to the beginning so that I could hear the song over again. I didn’t know what the words meant but just loved that the song had something to do with childhood and I loved being a kid. As a parent, when I actually listened to the words of the song and realized that it was about growing up and leaving the toys of childhood behind, it made me cry and chokes me up still. This song, by Peter, Paul and Mary, is an all time classic that every child, no matter what age, can enjoy.

Lyrics to watch for:

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys

Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys

When I decided to write a post about ‘Puff’, what was I thinking about? Leaves of different colors or maybe smoking; then again it is autumn and the trees sway at times due to a short, explosive burst of breath or wind. Or maybe I was thinking about my childhood of long ago and the toys left behind; and my present grown up years, the here, the now & that, that which awaits me.

Lyrics from Puff the Magic Dragon –

One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more

And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar

A state of mind

I now call myself old.

They say age is nothing but a number and a state of mind.

I now call myself old.

I googled ‘you know you’re old when quotes’, and received many different results.

buzzfeed.com has a list 56 Signs That You’re Definitely Getting Old(er) that includes the following –

You consider going to the post office as a “busy weekend.”

Crowded places easily frustrate you.

You wake up early on days you can sleep in.

You get teary-eyed during wedding scenes in movies.

You cannot believe people were born in the 2000s.

The celebrities at the Kids’ Choice Awards are complete strangers to you.

You just like to sit down sometimes.

Yes, I now call myself old.  But it is just a state of mind, right?

My son #3’s birthday is today; he is 30 years old today.  I remember when he and my other ‘boys’ were born, then toddlers and preschoolers; and I remember when they were teenagers.  It does not seem long ago, they were going to school, playing soccer and marching in the high school marching band.  Time continues on, never stopping for any reason and then one day the younger one; son #3 turns 30 years old.  Yes, I now call myself old.

When I turned 30 only 26 years ago, I remember feeling middle aged.  I can remember feeling good about my life, my age and looking forward to what life had to offer.  Fast forward and now all my sons are in their 30s, I wonder how they feel about that?  I have not asked them how they feel about being in their 30s; I would be curious to know.

I realize age is nothing but a number and a state of mind.  But, I now call myself old.

I do consider going anywhere on any day a busy day and crowded places do frustrate me at times.  Every day I can sleep in, but I do not; I always wake early.  I do get teary-eyed during wedding scenes in movies as well as many other scenes especially the movies on the Hallmark Channel.

Are there people that were really born in the 2000s and since when did kids have their own award show?

Many times I just like to sit and think and reflect.  I often reflect on life, my life, my sons and the current day’s events.

I now call myself old because today all 3 of my sons are in their 30s.

But, I realize age is nothing but a number and a state of mind.

Exposing Me – a video

I wrote in my post ‘to expose me‘, the following –

Now over 8 months later I have realized fellow bloggers are supportive of me and have welcomed me with open arms and appreciate my writings.  Because of this I decided to expose myself, my identity, to you my fellow bloggers.  But a course I am not doing it all in one post, I still have 3 months to write a post a day.

So I will write a series of posts to expose me – my identity to you and the blogger world.

In today’s post I write the following –

In my ‘to expose me’ series, I slowly identified myself to you.  There were the hands, the feet, the wrinkles, the hair, the body, the location, the voice, and my face.

Today let me put it all together into a video.  This video is the first of many future videos that will be part of my video blog series.
