to expose me

My blog began a little over 8 months ago with my ‘About Me’ page, starting with the following –

This site was created to share my life; my life filled with failures, disappointments and successes. Why am I here? I live and do the same as others and I wonder why I am here? Starting this blog at age 55, I am nearer to death than I have ever been, but yet feel I have so much to accomplish and much more to experience.

Today, I write the following –

My purpose when starting this blog was to write one post a day for 365 days.  At the time I thought this would be a challenge because quite honestly I did not think I had enough to write about – I was wrong.  I started writing and ideas for posts came to my mind and I just kept writing.  My first post was titled ‘Hello world, this is my blog.‘; it was very short and received 3 likes – since then I have written 279 posts.

I being a detailed person had logic behind when I published specific posts.  I have timelines with my posts and I have a reason for the sequence of my posts related to these timelines.  Initially my thought was to write about my past life events in a year’s time.  This ‘past life’ series will end sooner than I anticipated; sometime in March.  Then there is the current life timeline, those events and experiences that are taking place in my current life; the here and now.  I also am writing a timeline about the future; the moving to the next chapter of my life, this continues to unfold with each passing day.  I believe the next chapter, specifically moving to a different location will occur soon after my 1 year blog anniversary.

The past events of my life are what I started with when beginning this blog and because of that subject I was reluctant in exposing my true identity.  I was concerned with what you the readers would think about me and also my writing.  I never really have written to the degree I have on this blog.  I was nervous about the reactions, the feelings and thinking of others with regards to me.

Now over 8 months later I have realized fellow bloggers are supportive of me, have welcomed me and appreciate my writings.  Because of this I decided to expose myself, my identity, to you my fellow bloggers.  But a course I am not doing it all in one post, I still have 3 months to write a post a day.

So I will write a series of posts to expose me – my identity to you the blogger world.

This post is disclosing my real name.  You may refer to me by my real name or ‘spear’. (I have grown accustomed to spear and like it)

I look forward to exposing more of me in the near future.

New Year Starts With a Thank You

Happy New Year Everyone!

As I start this New Year, I first wanted to say ‘Thank You’ to each and every one of you that read my blog.  When I started this a little over 7 months ago I really had no idea where it would take me.  Really I was at a point where I was not doing much in my life.  At that time I knew my extreme Christmas decorating was not going to take place, so I had time on my hands to do something else.  And with me retired and not working, I have time on my hands.  So, what should I do?  I have always had the idea of writing a book about my life, I felt for me that was important.  But, deep inside I knew that would most likely not occur as I consider myself not a writer – I do not know where to start in writing a book.

So there I was last year with time on my hands and wondering what I should be doing with my time.  I could start a blog about me and my life; and that is what I did.  Would anyone read my blog about me and my life?  Would anyone really care about those things in my life that brought me to here today and a new year?  But I am not a writer; would people read and criticize my writing?  Should I expose the true me and everything about me?

Well, here I am today a little over 7 months later; writing and posting every single day since the beginning of my blog.  I love it!

I enjoy writing and the interactions with you my fellow bloggers.  I appreciate you taking the time to read, ‘Like’ and comment my posts.  I feel like I have friends and family here in the blogger world – this means a great deal to me.

I am learning to let go of the past and live in the current day.  I am learning from your posts, your comments and from you.  I am learning to be creative in my writing, learning from performing research of some post topics and learning that the world is a good place when you have a blog to share with others.

So my friends, my family – my hope for this year is you have 365 days filled will joy, happiness, fulfillment, surprises, expectations, goals and good health.

I truly am honored that you chose to follow my blog and read my posts – I truly am grateful for you.

thank you

Important Day to Flush

My partner forwarded me an email and wrote the following –

I have a great idea for a post for you on November 19th!  Since you are so anal on cleaning all the bathrooms every week (to include all the toilet bowls) even if not used since the last cleaning…there is a special day set aside for you on November 19th called “World Toilet Day’!  What are toilets used for… they flush away our waste.  Sort of what you are trying to do thru your blog.  Flush away your past issues and move to a better future (kind of when you look at a toilet bowl that has been cleaned).  The water is now clear and fresh and the bowl is clean of past debris.  Thus a new beginning…

He had no idea I would literally use his exact words.

A couple of items to note –

#1, yes I clean the bathrooms every week (to include all toilet bowls) even if not used since the last cleaning

#2, yes, toilets are used to flush away our waste, sort of what I am trying to do through my blog – flushing past issues and moving forward to a better future

#3, yes, there is really a day set aside for ‘World Toilet Day’, it is today

This November 19, on World Toilet Day, Kimberly-Clark Corporation is expanding the Toilets Change Lives program which aims to help solve the global sanitation crisis.

For more information about Kimberly-Clark’s commitment to sanitation or to access the work of our brands related to the issue, search “Toilets Change Lives” on Facebook.

A lack of basic sanitation affects people’s dignity and escalates the spread of life-threatening diseases that can be fatal to children and their families. Additionally, countless children miss school because of the spread of disease and infection from a lack of basic sanitation. Governmental bodies and world leaders have increasingly called attention to the crisis by organizing events such as World Toilet Day and more recently by including ‘access to water and sanitation for all’ in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

For a second year in the UK, Andrex brand is partnering with UNICEF, to sell special promotional packs of Andrex bath tissue in key retailer Sainsbury’s. For every pack purchased, a portion of sales will support UNICEF’s sanitation programs in Angola. www.andrex.co.uk/sanitation

The Scott brand in Bolivia has partnered with Water for People in a similar effort to support their Everyone, Forever program to achieve 100% coverage in water and sanitation services in the communities they serve. www.scottmashigiene.com/?loc=BO

Cottonelle is partnering with Water for People to raise funds and awareness around the lack of basic sanitation for families worldwide by asking individuals to #GoCommando4ACause.

Bloggers out there, make a donation is you can and let us help others with something we take for granted.

And when you flush today, think about flushing your past issues and moving forward – but do not think about me or this post – that would be just weird!

Flag Day

Some history about Flag Day.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia –

In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The United States Army also celebrates the Army Birthday on this date; Congress adopted “the American continental army” after reaching a consensus position in the Committee of the Whole on June 14, 1775.

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday. Title 36 of the United States Code, Subtitle I, Part A, CHAPTER 1, § 110 is the official statute on Flag Day; however, it is at the President’s discretion to officially proclaim the observance. On June 14, 1937, Pennsylvania became the first U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday, beginning in the town of Rennerdale. New York Statutes designate the second Sunday in June as Flag Day, a state holiday.

Perhaps the oldest continuing Flag Day parade is at Fairfield, Washington. Beginning in 1909 or 1910, Fairfield has held a parade every year since, with the possible exception of 1918, and celebrated the “Centennial” parade in 2010, along with some other commemorative events.

Quincy, Massachusetts has had an annual Flag Day parade since 1952 and claims it “is the longest-running parade of its kind in the nation.” The largest Flag Day parade is held annually in Troy, New York, which bases its parade on the Quincy parade and typically draws 50,000 spectators. In addition, the Three Oaks, MI Flag Day Parade is held annually on the weekend of Flag Day and is a three-day event and they claim to have the largest flag day parade in the nation as well as the oldest.

My flag is proudly displayed.

Memorial Day

As a child it was a holiday and therefore not a school day. I did not understand the true reason for Memorial Day.

As an adult it is no longer a holiday, but a day to remember those that have given the ultimate sacrifice. Those people who joined and served in the United States armed forces and to never return back home safely to their loved ones.

As an adult it is no longer a holiday, but a day to remember those that continue to give the ultimate sacrifice. Those people who joined and continue to serve in the United States armed forces and have yet to return back home safely to their loved ones.

As an adult it is no longer a holiday, but a day to remember my son who gives the ultimate sacrifice. My son who joined and continues to serve in the United States armed forces and has yet to return back home to his loved ones.

As an adult it is no longer a holiday, but a day to remember those that grieve for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Those people that grieve and continue to remember those they lost in the United States armed forces and never returned back home to them, their loved ones.

Music of the 1970s

I like music of the 1970s. The 70s were my influential years; the years I entered my teens, graduated high school, fell in love for the first time and became married. I believe some of the best music came out of the 70s. Who remembers ‘Hotel California’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘American Pie’, ‘Lean On Me’, ‘Bennie And The Jets’ and ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’? There are so many classic songs that debuted in this decade, and we cannot forget Disco music; ‘Staying Alive’, ‘Night Fever’ and ‘Le Freak’. These songs never get tiring and will always be nearby for our enjoyment.

This music brings back so many wonderful memories for me. 70s music is all I listen to when I am exercising at the gym. I can be walking on the treadmill, hear a particular song and it transports me back to a time and place where life seemed simple. I know this world had conflicts back them, but to me my little world did not seem too bad. Yes, I had some problems; just getting good enough grades to graduate high school was a struggle for me. Psychological symptoms started to manifest and would be more pronounced and harmful in the 1980s.

But when I listen to the music of the 70s, it takes me back to good times, before my life became complicated and difficult. I by no means want to go back to the 1970s, but I sure do like the music. There are only a few current songs that I care to listen to in today’s world. Call me old fashioned, but today’s music is just not the same – not as good as the music of the 1970s.

I like routines, do you?

rou·tine

/ro͞oˈtēn/

  1. a sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program.

“I settled down into a routine of work and sleep”

synonyms: procedure, practice, pattern, drill, regimen;

I like routines, do you? We all have them in our everyday life; we follow them without even thinking about them. We have routines in all parts of our lives: personal, work, social, family, relationships. Think about it, everything we do every day is a routine. What do you do first thing in the morning upon rising? How do you dress yourself, left sock first or right sock first? How do you open your car door and what is the first thing you do in the car, start it first and then put your seat belt on or buckle your seat belt then start the car? Do you have a routine of what time to eat your meals every day, when to exercise, when to run errands or what day of the week to do laundry?

I like routines, do you? I like them because for me personally they keep me stable, sane and balanced. Routines are constant and constant is familiarity: knowing something, feeling close to it and feeling good about it. Routines that are constant keep us focused and not having to put much effort into them, they are as natural as breathing, sleeping, seeing, hearing and thinking. They just occur and we let them take us through our day.

I like routines, do you? Routines can sometimes not be good for us and may even cause harm, pain, heartache, suffering, stagnation and yes even death. Am I the only one who thinks about these things, about routines and how they control us? Really think about it. I have routines I live by every day of my life, both good ones and bad ones. I allow them to control me to the point, that if one routine changes, it causes me to become disturbed and I let the change in routine ruin my day. I am trying to change the results I experience due to the changed routines in my life. Doing things differently is good at times, some routines need to be changed and with that change brings acceptance and freedom.

I like routines, do you?

Hello world, this is my blog.

This is my very first post. What should I write that may be of interest to others?  Not much and then again maybe I do have many things I can write about.  I am an ordinary person, just like many others who live ordinary lives and do ordinary things.  I have many opinions about the everyday stuff, some important and some not so important.

The words I write, some readers may not like, others just will not read them, but others may find very interesting.  My words are my own and do not belong to anyone else.  The writing comes from me: my opinions, thoughts and ideas may change daily, over a longer period of time or never.

I will start soon writing about something and see where it goes from there.
