Look Forward

Friday a week ago, I met with my Oncologist Dr. D. to discuss the option for a possible trial medication for Stage 4 Bladder Cancer and possible Cancer Centers that could administer the trial.  At this time, research on my part is taking place with regards to my future cancer care.  Because I am currently recovering from my recent surgery, no future possible treatments will take place until after the next round of imaging tests; these will take place next month.

This past week I had a routine appointment with my Urologist Dr. P. to discuss my surgery recovery.  Dr. P. is pleased with my recovery and we will have another follow-up appointment early April.

I also met with another Oncologist Dr. A. for a second opinion at a Cancer Center here in Pensacola.  Dr. A. will meet with peers on his facilities tumor board to discuss possible options.  He did indicate that one possible option is radiation.  At this time, no decision will be made until after imaging tests are conducted next month.

This past Tuesday in my post ‘Seeking a Home Base’, I mentioned Gary and I are searching for a location to plant roots and use as our home base.  A trip is planned in a couple of weeks and we will be visiting different locations that best meet our needs.  The trip will also include visiting a major Cancer Center located in Tampa, Florida.  A referral is submitted and a consultation appointment is in place.

Currently there is much planning taking place for a future move to a more permanent location and finding a new medical facility for my healthcare.  As indicated a couple of days ago in my post ‘Exactly 1 Month‘, I am feeling good with my recovery.  I will admit though, I do not feel excellent as I am having difficulties with some pain and other minor issues.  I am not sure if they are related to the surgery or my cancer diagnoses and if over time I will overcome these minor issues.

I want to feel great every single day, and honestly, I do not.  7 weeks ago I had a very major surgery and I have to remind myself the recovery will take 2-3 months.  I will be starting my 3rd month of recovery very soon and when it ends; my hope is the minor issues come to an end as well.

I have not felt great in a very long time and I miss those days when I felt healthy, active and invincible.  I was truly happy those days and I feel they are gone for good.  Am I being a little pessimistic and down?  Yes, I am.

What do I have to look forward to in the coming weeks and months?

More recovery, a possible new location and new doctors with new ideas.

I hope also, I can look forward to feeling healthier, active, and invincible once again.

Moving Day

Moving Day is a 1936 American animated short film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by United Artists. The cartoon, set during the contemporary Great Depression, follows the antics of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy as they frantically pack their belongings after being dispossessed from their home. The film was directed by Ben Sharpsteen and includes the voices of Walt Disney as Mickey, Clarence Nash as Donald, Pinto Colvig as Goofy, and Billy Bletcher as Pete as the Sheriff.

Today is moving day 2016!

2 months ago, Gary and I moved from Dallas, Texas to Pensacola, Florida.  The reason to move to our current location was specifically for my healthcare.  20160805_083743As you know we are living in an RV park on the Naval Air Station in Pensacola and now will need to leave for a couple of weeks.  The policy for this park is after 3 months here, you must leave for at least 2 weeks before you can return.

Due to my schedule with chemotherapy, the upcoming holidays and the possibility of an upcoming surgery; Gary and I decided we would stay for 2 months, leave and stay in a nearby RV park for 2 weeks and then come back here at our current location for the following 3 months.

A minor inconvenience for now because Gary and I have become a little complacent.  We have settled into our new living arrangement and lifestyle and we like it very much.  But the reality is we have to move away for a couple of weeks and this is ultimately a good thing.  image2We need to practice our packing and strapping down items; we need to practice hitching the 5th wheel to the truck and we need to practice driving and towing the 5th wheel.

So the temporary move is an opportunity to practice and an opportunity to accept change.  The new temporary location is another military RV park about 10 miles from our current location, just on the Alabama and Florida state border.  The location is still near the hospitals I visit for my health needs and provides many trails for walking.  It is also located on the beach, though I do not consider the view as nice as the current one here in the current location.

These past 2 months, Gary and I have met many wonderful people that we now consider friends here in the RV park.  image3Like us, some of them are staying here long term and also will have to move for the required 2 weeks.  They also plan to make their way to the same RV park as us and it will be nice to know these new friends will be there.

So unlike the moving day of 2 months ago, this is an easy one; no downsizing and much less packing is involved.

Are we there yet?

I feel like I am on a journey to ‘The Kingdom of Far, Far Away’.

In my post ‘The planning continues‘, I wrote the following –

There is still a house to sell and possessions to rid of and other activities that must be dealt with before the travel begins.  Gary and I are ready to begin, but other activities must first take place before hand.  The truck is bought and an RV has been picked out.  We are waiting to purchase the RV until the house is sold.

As we continue to plan, I will keep you posted on the progress.

In my post ‘show-ready‘, I wrote the following –

The additional activities that will take place once a solid offer is in place and the results of my next Dr. F. visit are on hold until the time comes.  In the meantime, we continue to clean windows, dust furniture, wipe countertops, pickup leaves from the yard and wait for that next call and the next showing.

In today’s post, I write the following –

We have made plans as to where we would like to travel to, the locations & stops and the amount of time for each location.  These plans will change as at this point in time we do not have a date when the travel adventure will start.  I am holding off on revealing the travel plans with you at this time because, they will change and I want to make sure we have concrete plans before revealing to you.  Upon receiving an offer on the house and depending on the results of my doctor visit; we then will finalize our plans.

Stay tuned my friends and be patient as I have enough frustration for all of us.

I am like a child (or donkey) sitting in the backseat and continually asking the question “Are we there yet?”

I respond to myself “The Kingdom of Far, Far Away, that’s where we are going – far, far away!”

The journey is partially planned, but yet to start.

And in the meantime Gary and I continue to have the house ‘show-ready’ and remain optimistic.

Are we there yet?
