Seeking a Home Base

Many of you know, last year Gary and I sold our huge house in Dallas, Texas.  We bought an RV and our plan was to travel the United States for a while until we were ready again to settle down permanently.

Pensacola_1

My health changed for the worse and the travel adventure across the United States was put on hold.  We are currently living in Pensacola, Florida while my health care needs are taken care of.  Pensacola by no means is where Gary and I want to plant roots and call home; it is just a temporary location.

Our current location is an RV park located on the Naval Air Station Pensacola.  Their policy is an RV can stay for 3 months and then must leave for 2 weeks before returning back to the park for another 3 month stay.  Back in October we spent 2 weeks in another park near here that is also associated with the Naval Air Station, but not located on base.  At that time I was going through chemotherapy and we had to stay here in this area.

The next time to leave our current RV park, we decided to store the RV for 2 weeks and went on our cruise in December.

December of last year in my post ‘My Message‘, I wrote that Gary and I initially were to spend Christmas with his family at the RV park, but the plans were changed due to unforeseen circumstances.  Those unforeseen circumstances involve Gary’s younger brother experiencing major health issues.  Some of you know Gary’s mom who suffers from dementia lives with his younger brother.  Because of his younger brother’s health issues, we transferred mom to Gary’s older brother in Orlando when we drove there for our cruise.

Now it is March and time again for us to leave this park for 2 weeks.  We again have decided to store the RV for 2 weeks and take a trip to Orlando for several reasons.

Gary’s older brother and wife are leaving for a weeklong trip and Gary and I will be staying with his mom during their absence.  We are also seeking and searching for a possible location to plant roots and find a home base.  We need a home base for several reasons and central Florida is our first choice.  The home base will allow us to have a permanent residence where we can receive mail and a place we can come back to after our travel adventures.

The home base will also allow for Gary to have access to a permanent VA hospital for his medical needs.  Because our home base will be in a different area than our current location; I will need to find another health provider for my healthcare needs.

In 2 weeks, the RV is stored and we drive to central Florida to take care of mom and search for a possible home base.

Once the 2 weeks is over we will return to our current RV park.

Departure

December of last year had Gary and myself on a cruise ship in the Eastern Caribbean.

Our last port before returning to Port Canaveral, Florida was Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.

There were 5 cruise ships docked that day and within minutes of each other, it was time to depart.

Here is a quick video of that Departure.

Imagine You

A month ago in my post ‘Travel Vision‘, I wrote the following –

Since my initial posts about our travel adventure and the idea of meeting many of you; my life changed dramatically.  But the plans and the travel, though on hold now, they are still my vision for the future, especially now more so than ever.  Why?  Well, because you have supported me and helped me through a tough time in my life.  I want to thank you both in my writings here on WP and if possible in person when the travel adventure takes place.

In today’s post, I write the following –

I realize I would be unable to thank each one of you in person, but if it is possible to thank a few of you in person; I would be honored.  I remain optimistic this will occur someday, so in the meantime, I imagine you.  There are many of you that I know what you look like and have a clue to your personality.  Part of your personality is portrayed through your writings and posts.  But I feel no matter what we display; we do not know each other 100%, it is difficult for the true 100% of us to be here on our blogs.

Okay, so where am I going with this?

Well, back to my reason for this post – Imagine You

Back in November of last year after Thanksgiving: I was sitting on an airplane ready to fly back to Florida from Texas.  While the plane is parked at the gate, I sit in my chair waiting for others to board and take their seats.  Gary and I are lucky enough to sit on the first row of the plane, not first class mind you, but we are on the first row which means more leg room.  Across the aisle are 3 women, very different women who chat as if they are the best of friends for many years.  One of them has a familiar look because she reminds me of a fellow blogger friend who I will not mention by name here.  This fellow blogger friend does not have a picture of herself on her blog, but she has briefly displayed herself a couple of times: so, I have a glimpse of her in my mind.

As I sit there and listen to these women chat I imagine the one that has the familiar look is my fellow blogger friend.

There are other times I am in a public area imagining people around me are you.   These other people around me, these strangers to me I imagine are really friends, you my friends.

I imagine these strangers are people I know; people who I know a little about and people I know a lot about – I imagine these strangers are not strangers after all – they are friends – they are you.

I would like to meet every one of you in person someday.  Most likely that will not happen, so in the mean time I will continue to – Imagine You

(Here is an upbeat song for a Monday morning.  If I could I would be up dancing, but my recovery is not allowing that for now – soon, very soon, I will be!)

Cruising

It is 2 days after surgery and I am recovering.  Because past experience has proven I am not the greatest hospital patient, I decided to post some photos taken on our recent cruise last month because they bring a smile to my face.

I will be in ICU for a couple of days and then the recovery begins.

I appreciate everyone taking the time to stop by, read and leave many wonderful comments.  Due to my surgery and not knowing how I will be feeling; I am disabling the comments on my post today.  I need a few days of recovery and to grow accustom to the new me.  But know soon I will have comments enabled and I will be ready to respond to each one of them.

Rocket Man

Back in November of last year, in my post ‘Moment of Silence‘, I wrote the following –

I mentioned in a previous post, the Blue Angels home is NAS Pensacola, and their hangers and headquarters are located directly across the street from us.  They practice every Tuesday and Wednesday and let’s just say, our 5th wheel at times shakes when they jet across the sky just above us.  This past weekend they ended their season here at the NAS.  The NAS Pensacola Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show was held just across the street and the area was overflowing with people.  Gary and I are fortunate we are near as we could view the airshow from our current home.  We did take the opportunity to walk over to the air show and visit the vendors, performers, aircraft displays and other attractions.

In today’s post, I follow up with the following –

The following are highlights of video I took of the Blue Angels.  First, I apologize for the quality of the video – I am not a pro.  The first part of the video with the blue skies was taken one day while the Blue Angels were practicing.  The second part of the video with the cloudy skies was taken the day of the airshow and the third part was taken later that evening.

I hope you enjoy my video –

Travel Vision

Back in June of last year, I wrote a post ‘Sneak Peek‘, that included the following excerpts –

Image 1Gary and I continue to plan our future adventure.  I wanted to give you a sneak peek into our future travels.  We are planning travels starting on or around August 2th, which is the date of the closing for the home.  Our planning involves traveling a portion of the United States and then making our way back to West Texas for Thanksgiving in which we will spend with my family.  Our plan then will be to travel back to Dallas, Texas for my urology checkup and then proceed from there as long as my checkup is good.

After winter we then plan to travel another portion of the United States and hopefully by the end of next year have traveled in all 48 continental United States.

Yes, our further out future plans could change due to many unforeseen variables.  Do not forget, I still must have a cystoscopy performed every 3 months for the next several years due to my recent cancer.  At this time, we have not decided how this will be handled once we are on the road again.  This is an important consideration to keep in mind when we make our schedule for traveling.

In today’s post, I write the following –

When I wrote that post and those words a little over 6 months ago, I had no idea what was to come in the last months of last year and the first months of this year.  I had no idea my cancer would come back as quick as it did and I never imagined I would have to undergo chemotherapy and soon after have a major surgery.  But, ultimately this is what was to occur.

Gary and I continue to have plans to take a travel adventure across the United States.  Our hope is that this will begin sometime this year, and wishful thinking that it will begin this spring or summer. I remind myself, there is a major surgery in a couple of weeks and a recovery to follow.

And I understand there is a few unknowns that will be revealed soon after the surgery, but I remain optimistic the travel adventure will begin sometime this year.

Some of you may remember in May of last year in my post ‘Plan B; your curveball‘, I wrote that on our travel adventure if I am close to you the readers, I would very much enjoy meeting you in person.  My plan to meet some of you in person is still in my dreams and my desires.

This post is just a reminder that the travel adventure on hold will be a reality someday – hopefully a little later this year – stay tuned.

Sailing

In my post ‘Welcome Aboard!‘, I wrote the following words –

Gary and I are setting sail on our cruise today.

I plan to take many pictures, some videos and hopefully will have a brain full of ideas for future posts.

In today’s post, I write the following words –

As promised, I took many pictures; here are a few of them.

Words from the song ‘Sailing’ by Christopher Cross.

image1

Well, it’s not far down to paradise, at least it’s not for me

And if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility

Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see

Believe me

image2

It’s not far to never-never land, no reason to pretend

And if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again

Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see

Believe me

image3

Sailing takes me away to where I’ve always heard it could be

Just a dream and the wind to carry me

And soon I will be free

Fantasy, it gets the best of me

When I’m sailing

image4

All caught up in the reverie, every word is a symphony

Won’t you believe me?

Sailing takes me away to where I’ve always heard it could be

Just a dream and the wind to carry me

And soon I will be free

image5

Well it’s not far back to sanity, at least it’s not for me

And if the wind is right you can sail away and find serenity

Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see

Believe me

image6

Sailing takes me away to where I’ve always heard it could be

Just a dream and the wind to carry me

And soon I will be free

Back Tomorrow

In my post ‘Spending time away‘, I wrote the following –

While I am on one of the biggest ships, sailing the Atlantic Ocean visiting several Caribbean islands; my plan involves some days publishing a brand-new post and other days re-publishing an older post.  I wrote posts early in my blog that received little exposer and I consider them among others as interesting posts. I know I can reblog these posts, but decided instead to create a new post for each and give a different name to them.

I appreciate everyone taking the time to stop by, read and leave many wonderful comments.  My time away sailing and enjoying other activities will result in time offline and will prevent me from responding to the many wonderful comments I receive.  Therefore, I will be disabling the comments on many of my upcoming posts while spending time away.  There will be times I will have some time online and you will see me a little here and there on WP.  But, most of my time will be offline having fun, relaxing and enjoying the sun.

In today’s post, I write the following –

The past 7 days, Gary and I have been sailing on a large ship in the Eastern Caribbean and will be back docked into a Florida port tomorrow.

Upon my return, I plan to share our trip though words, pictures and video.  I hope you enjoyed my posts from this past week; some new, some old and I appreciate you allowing me to disable the comments on a few.  You are welcome to leave a comment on this post related to a post from this past week.  I hope to have the time to start responding to comments tomorrow and to read your posts.  But if time does not allow, I will eventually catch-up – I promise.

I am writing this post in advance because I am out sailing the seas, but I know from my past experiences with taking a cruise that Gary and I had a great time.  Starting next week, I am back to the Christmas season; after all it is a little over a week away.

But next week also is the start of what is to occur with my health and body; my reality.  My reality starts again next week with an appointment with my Urologist Dr. P. to discuss details of my upcoming surgery.  The week after Christmas will be an appointment with the hospital for pre-op procedures and the first week of the new year begins with a major surgery.

There still is a couple of weeks before that first week of the year – for now, today – I am still cruising.

I will be back tomorrow.

Yes, 2 months ago I was nominated for the 3 Day Quote Challenge by the following 3 bloggers –

Roxie over at U.T.I.P. (UNITE TOGETHER IN PEACE)

An excerpt from Roxie’s About Page –

Writing has always been a passion of mine.   This was blog was started with the intent to gain a positive outlook on life.  I always had a positive outlook but after suffering a concussion, that outlook changed.   Writing about my long rehabilitation I found to be difficult and emotional, at the present time.

Josh’s first post displays –

Hello to anyone and everyone that is reading this. This my first blog and first post so I thought that I would kick it off with some of my favorite quotes.

-JD

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”

-Mark Twain

“The destiny of mankind is not decided by material computation. When great causes are on the move in the world … we learn that we are spirits, not animals, and that something is going on in space and time, and beyond space and time, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty.”

-Winston Churchill

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”

-Benjamin Franklin

I hope it is okay with everyone that I post 3 quotes for this post for all 3 nominators instead a separate post for each one.
